Decorated Ganesha Wall hanger-made from CD

Hello everyone..

Its good to be back after a long time.. Today I have posted a decorative wall hanger made with CD.

With the new age of teeny tiny storage devices, Cds have almost become a collector's item.. But its a wonderful base for several art and craft works because of its usual compactness and the wonderful reflective surface..

how many of us have age old CDs at home which is of no use to us and just gathers dust? Well, we can see infinite methods to reuse them in the internet.. This craft is one of a million ways to reuse an old CD..

Here is my wall hanger..

My wall hanger was made as a gift. I have pasted a precut golden colored plastic Ganesha in the center of a CD. The outlines are decorated with several colored beadstrings..

By placing a satin ribbon at the back of this CD, paste another CD facing outwards and stick stone patches and a beadwork at the bottom part finishes this beautiful home decor...

Hope you liked my craft. Thank you for visiting my blog

Have a nice day..

Handmade toy for Kids-Bus

Hello everyone..

Last week, When my kid showed me her school circular about doing a home project (Topic-Ur kids favourite means of transport),little did I know that she likes bus this much.. I thought of doing a simple car with some paper plates and chart paper..

When she was excited about the big bus, then came the idea of turning a toy box of Talking Tom into a bus..Though I had an idea in my heart, as it was  my first attempt, I was a little nervous.. The finished bus was like this..

It all started with the outer carton of a toy and a piece of thermocoal.. Cut out the external flap and fold the cover to form the shape of the front of the bus..

Now for the wheels, I have made circles of about 4 cm radius..out of thermocoal and pasted it onto the sides of the box with fabric glue..

Now comes the fun part.. We can decorate the bus with color papers, some stickers and shiny cards for the windshield and back glasses..

Voila..

Handmade Flower chariot with old CDs

Hello everyone..

Gifting always brings us joy and comfort.. In a way, Gifting is also twice blessed like mercy. Gifting someone something gives both the giver and the receiver a great feeling of happiness and satisfaction, even pride.. Isn't it?

When I wanted to gift a ring..I thought that the box was too small and then suddenly it hit me..why not I present my gift in a little more bigger sized box? With that thought, when I was youtubing,I came across these wonderful flower carts and cycles made with plastic cups and old Cds. Inspired by those videos, I made this flower cart with sponge,CDs, readymade plastic flowers, popsicle sticks and some decorating materials..

The finished cart looked like this..

I colored the CDs in brown color to give an earthern feel to it.. The cart was made with a packing material sponge and colored in brown and golden dust.. The artificial flowers are inserted into an oasis flowerbed and the ring is placed in the center..

When I gifted this ring in this way, It surely gave me pleasure and pride in creating something rather just handing out a small box .. When my aunt received, she thought that the cart itself is the present and the ring was icing on the cake.. I felt so happy to be felt that my creation with simple things gave her  more happiness than a golden ring..

Learnt through youtube- DIY Satin Ribbon Garland

Hello everyone..

Celebrations always provide joy and a feeling of unitedness among us.. So with Janmastami and independence day we all might have made much more good memories.. With that thought, I realized that another grand festival is just around the corner.."Ganesh Chathurthi"..

I wanted to do something for my Lord Ganesh idol.. The height of the idol is about 40 cms.. And I wanted to make a garland for him..

While youtubing,I came across this wonderful video of making a large satin ribbon garland..Though making garland with satin ribbon by inserting a thread though it is an almost common craft, this little variant in the making method takes this garland to a new level...

I have made an almost same colored garland by inserting a needle through the center of the ribbon..You can view my Satin Ribbon Garland Post here.

Though this newly learnt method is tricky and time consuming, the finished garland is worth every second...

This is the link of the youtube video from which I have learnt this method of making satin ribbon garland..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNprCAqZ7XM

Inspired by that video, I have made this garland according my imagination and style..

Step 1:Make small strips (the quantity of the strips vary according to the height of the garland)of any colored satin ribbons of about 10 cms.Fold them as shown..

Step 2: Fold them again along the center..

Step 3.. Now when you hold the lower half together, You will get a petal..

Now, Insert the needle through each of the petal to make a full garland..We can heat the end of the ribbon strips to avoid them from tearing down..

We can add beads as a decoration ..

The finished garland looked like this..

Hand made Thailand Accessories

Hello everyone..

Kids are always cute... But you will be amazed when a liitle fancy dress party comes in their way...and they look completley adorable.. For my daughter, the theme of the fancy dress was Traditional costumes of different countries other than India, as they celebrated  "World Population Day" in their school.

So I researched throughout the net and finally decided to go with Thailand.. For dressing her up, I decided to use her own dresses and layered it like a traditional Thai costume.. But when I wanted to accessorize her, that's when thing got interesting..

All of Thailand's accessories were unique  and I started making them with the things that I had..

First of all, I made a head dress with golden leaf like structures around her hairbun..
This required some satin flowers and golden glitterd foams(As I could not find golden foil leaves)..
They were all tied up over a thin golden wire that is usually used in making stocking cloth flowers..

After stitching the flowers on to the wire, we can attach the golden leaves and let the glue dry for about 2 to 3 hours.. Now the headdress is ready..

Now for the hip belt, I have glued two circles of chart paper on both sides of an old bangle.. And attached it onto some golden laces.. we can decorate the center piece of the belt with stones and gems...

At last comes the hair pin. We know that beaded hairpin is essential for Chinese and Japanese costumes, But it is also a part of Thailand's traditional costume..

I have decorated a piece of flower shaped chart and attached some toothpicks for  the comb..The finished hairpin looked like this..

So that is all for today friends.. Hope you liked my post..Thank you for visiting my blog..

Birthday card for Dad

Hello everyone..

I love to make greeting cards.. Today I have posted a handmade greeting card done for husband's birthday.. This card has a personal touch as my elder daughter has drawn a family photo inside this card..

I have used a blue card stock as a base for this card..Fold the card vertically along the center to make this a book like opening greeting card..

A blue colored glittering foam sheet is used to cut out petals of a flower.. Now We can paste the petals in the form of a flower..

Upon that and in the corners, I have pasted some pre-cut foam flowers and butterflies which can be bought in any craft shop.. We can paste any stones or crystals to further decorate it.. A tape of stones is pasted along the opening side...

When we open this card, it looks like this..

My daughter has drawn this family photo and I have attached it with glittering tape.. A small cartoon with googly eyes and a wish written using glitter completes this greeting card..

Hope you liked this card..Thank you for visiting.. Please don't forget to follow my blog for instant updates.. Have a nice day.. keep on crafting..

Birthday Gift - Cake Box

Hello everyone..

Today is my daughter's birthday.. the most exciting day for my 6 year old.. So to make things still more fun, I have transformed a plastic box into a cake shaped goodies box and gifted it to her.. She was so happy with her gift..

There are many wonderful gifts and gift shops are available everywhere and we can buy any of them .But when we gift something that was hand made by us..(even though it is simple..), the joy we see on our kid's face is definitely worth it... They realize the time and effort we have put onto creating something exclusively for them.. and thus our bond becomes stronger..

Actually,I love the cute gifts from shops..So I combined both the gifts by placing a shop bought gift inside my handmade gift.. I highly recommend you to try this..for it will bring joy and fun for sure..

Here is what the cake box looked like..

 How to:

Make the lid:
  1. Place a sponge on the lid and tape it
  2. Stretch a stocking cloth and tape it in the bottom of the lid
  3. This forms the cake top
  4. We can decorate it with crystals,Pearls, glitersand any other decor items.
Here is how the side of the box will look like..

Make the side of the cake box:
  1. Place a sponge along the side covering the whole box
  2. Paste a net cloth on the sponge
  3. Decorate it with stickers or other such things..
Now comes the fun and surprising moment..Open the box to see all the personalized goodies and gifts..

We can place any gift according to our kid's favorites..I have placed a small teddy bear fridge magnet, a small hand made greeting card, some Dora stickers(Her favorite..) and some chocolates..

Hope you liked my post...Thank you for visiting my blog.. Please leave your valuable opinion..

Decorated Karthigai Deepam

Hello everyone..

Today is the auspicious day of Karthigai Deepam.. Karthigai is the 8th month of the Tamil calendar.. "Periya karthigai" or "Karthigai Thirunal" is the birth date of Lord Karthikeya, also known as Lord Murugan, a prominent deity of Tamil Nadu..

About Karthigai Deepam:

On this special day, Fasting is done in the name of "Karthigai Viratham".. without eating breakfast and lunch but Fruits, Mavu Urundai(Flour Laddu) and Milk can be taken.. the fasting is ended with a grand feast(consists of rice, sambar and 7 or more vegetable poriyal and finished with sweet kheer or payasam) in the evening 6 pm after lighting the deepam and offering prayers to the Lord Murugan..

Today, the famous "Maha Deepam" is also lit on the hilltop of the Shivan temple, "Sri Arunachaleswarar temple" at Thiruvannamalai,Tamil Nadu

As a deepam is the main feature of this celebration, today, I have decorated some clay diyas.. Lets get into it..

Painting:

The simple way of making a clay deepam colorful and beautiful is to paint it..I have painted this diya using lemon yellow and crimson acrylic colors.. (If acrylic colors are not available, Poster colors can also be used... but a coat of varnish is needed to avoid color fading..)

Metallic Dust:

We can obtain an antique effect on the deepam by applying metallic dust...Metallic dust comes as Gold,Silver and bronze... They add a wonderful effect to the plain deepam.. At first, when I brushed on some dust, more dust was wasted.. but accidently, i applied the dust which spilled on my fingers on the deepam, it was very effective and easy to do too..So on this deepam, i have applied gold and silver dust with my fingers...

Beads:

We can paste any decor items such as sequins, beads, bead strings or stones to decorte a deepam.. Please note to leave the place where it is lit.. to avoid melting of the decor items..

I have pasted a lotus shaped old pendant at one its end..

My favourite:

This deepam looks so beautiful that I could not think of any way to enhance it... Such was the talent  of the designer and craftsman of this clay deepam.. So, as a respect to the designer, I have decided to use this deepam as a clay one itself..

A VERY HAPPY KARTHIGAI DEEPAM TO ALL OF YOU"

Hope you liked my diyas.. You can try it too and post your creations at the comment section below..
