Tanjore painting- Tamil literature

 Hi friends..

Great to post after such a long interval. Today I have posted a new Tanjore painting that I have completed. This painting is a tribute to the ancient tamil literature called as the "Five Great Epics" or "IMPERUM KAAPIYANGAL" as said in Tamil.

It is said that there were 5 great tamil epics . Unfortunately we couldnt get all of poetry now. But what we have got itself contains so much information about our distant past. Its so amazing that they still resonate with many scenarios that we see today.

The five epics are

  1. Silapathikaaram
  2. Manimegalai
  3. Seevaga Sinthamani
  4. Valaiyapathy
  5. Kundalakesi
Each epic is named after a jewellery worn by ancient tamil women.

This is the painting. Pls take a look

Hanging Flower vase illusion craft

Hello friends..

After a long time it feels so good to post.. Today's craft is inspired by an illusion art. A flower vase is made to look like like it is hanging in the air and the flowers are falling from it.. I have seen many cakes decorated by using this technique..

A fork is pasted on the centre of the pink plate with hot glue.. ThensSmall fabric roses and precut leaves arepsted along the fork as to hide it completely.. A small container is pasted at eh handle end.. and some flowers and leaves are pasted inside it too.

Once it dries, it gives the illusion of the vase magically hanging in air and the flowers are falling from it.

My Kid's School Project-Map Of Goa

Hello everyone..

Project works mean a lot for our kids.. they learn beyond their books and enjoy presenting something that they did. My daughter was thrilled when she came to know about her project and we all did this together..

The topic was Map of Goa..

It took a week to complete this project and we made a 3D map of Goa with beaches, coconut trees, rivers, districts and its water transports.

The base was made with thermocol and tissue paper. Then it was painted completely with fabric paint. Ready made coconut trees were used..The rivers are drawn with glitter paints. The boat photos were pasted on a chart and attached to the thermocol..

Labelling is done with the help of toothpicks..

Here... Take a look

Kids Badges made with Chart paper

Hello everyone..
We never know the true value of the time we allocate to share with our children. If we spend our time with our kids, it will become their most treasured memory. All mothers will realize that when they talk to their child. They will remember about that joyous time up to very minute detail even when we can't.. If we play with our child, they will feel secure and respected.

So today I have posted a small craft about making a simple badge made with chart paper..But for sure it will become a treasured possession for their whole life. Please make your children get involved and encourage them to do.

How its Made:

First cut a chart paper in to a small circle or any shape liked by them..

Draw their favorite outline. for example, a star or a diamond.

Apply glue and put some glitter on that shape. After 5 minutes, dust off the excess glitter and they will stuck only in the places where the glue was applied.

Now write any inspiring or any word that your child will feel proud in wearing on them.. Stick a small safety pin in the back and past another chart paper to place the pin in its place..

Attach a decorative ribbon as border. Let it dry.

Now a cute badge is ready for your kid to wear..

Decorated Ganesha Wall hanger-made from CD

Hello everyone..

Its good to be back after a long time.. Today I have posted a decorative wall hanger made with CD.

With the new age of teeny tiny storage devices, Cds have almost become a collector's item.. But its a wonderful base for several art and craft works because of its usual compactness and the wonderful reflective surface..

how many of us have age old CDs at home which is of no use to us and just gathers dust? Well, we can see infinite methods to reuse them in the internet.. This craft is one of a million ways to reuse an old CD..

Here is my wall hanger..

My wall hanger was made as a gift. I have pasted a precut golden colored plastic Ganesha in the center of a CD. The outlines are decorated with several colored beadstrings..

By placing a satin ribbon at the back of this CD, paste another CD facing outwards and stick stone patches and a beadwork at the bottom part finishes this beautiful home decor...

Handmade toy for Kids-Bus

Hello everyone..

Last week, When my kid showed me her school circular about doing a home project (Topic-Ur kids favourite means of transport),little did I know that she likes bus this much.. I thought of doing a simple car with some paper plates and chart paper..

When she was excited about the big bus, then came the idea of turning a toy box of Talking Tom into a bus..Though I had an idea in my heart, as it was  my first attempt, I was a little nervous.. The finished bus was like this..

It all started with the outer carton of a toy and a piece of thermocoal.. Cut out the external flap and fold the cover to form the shape of the front of the bus..

Now for the wheels, I have made circles of about 4 cm radius..out of thermocoal and pasted it onto the sides of the box with fabric glue..

Now comes the fun part.. We can decorate the bus with color papers, some stickers and shiny cards for the windshield and back glasses..

Voila..

Hope you liked my post.. Thank you for visiting my blog..

Handmade Flower chariot with old CDs

Hello everyone..

Gifting always brings us joy and comfort.. In a way, Gifting is also twice blessed like mercy. Gifting someone something gives both the giver and the receiver a great feeling of happiness and satisfaction, even pride.. Isn't it?

When I wanted to gift a ring..I thought that the box was too small and then suddenly it hit me..why not I present my gift in a little more bigger sized box? With that thought, when I was youtubing,I came across these wonderful flower carts and cycles made with plastic cups and old Cds. Inspired by those videos, I made this flower cart with sponge,CDs, readymade plastic flowers, popsicle sticks and some decorating materials..

The finished cart looked like this..

I colored the CDs in brown color to give an earthern feel to it.. The cart was made with a packing material sponge and colored in brown and golden dust.. The artificial flowers are inserted into an oasis flowerbed and the ring is placed in the center..

When I gifted this ring in this way, It surely gave me pleasure and pride in creating something rather just handing out a small box .. When my aunt received, she thought that the cart itself is the present and the ring was icing on the cake.. I felt so happy to be felt that my creation with simple things gave her  more happiness than a golden ring..

Learnt through youtube- DIY Satin Ribbon Garland

Hello everyone..

Celebrations always provide joy and a feeling of unitedness among us.. So with Janmastami and independence day we all might have made much more good memories.. With that thought, I realized that another grand festival is just around the corner.."Ganesh Chathurthi"..

I wanted to do something for my Lord Ganesh idol.. The height of the idol is about 40 cms.. And I wanted to make a garland for him..

While youtubing,I came across this wonderful video of making a large satin ribbon garland..Though making garland with satin ribbon by inserting a thread though it is an almost common craft, this little variant in the making method takes this garland to a new level...

I have made an almost same colored garland by inserting a needle through the center of the ribbon..You can view my Satin Ribbon Garland Post here.

Though this newly learnt method is tricky and time consuming, the finished garland is worth every second...

This is the link of the youtube video from which I have learnt this method of making satin ribbon garland..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNprCAqZ7XM

Inspired by that video, I have made this garland according my imagination and style..

Step 1:Make small strips (the quantity of the strips vary according to the height of the garland)of any colored satin ribbons of about 10 cms.Fold them as shown..

Step 2: Fold them again along the center..

Step 3.. Now when you hold the lower half together, You will get a petal..

Now, Insert the needle through each of the petal to make a full garland..We can heat the end of the ribbon strips to avoid them from tearing down..

We can add beads as a decoration ..

The finished garland looked like this..

Hand made Thailand Accessories

Hello everyone..

Kids are always cute... But you will be amazed when a liitle fancy dress party comes in their way...and they look completley adorable.. For my daughter, the theme of the fancy dress was Traditional costumes of different countries other than India, as they celebrated  "World Population Day" in their school.

So I researched throughout the net and finally decided to go with Thailand.. For dressing her up, I decided to use her own dresses and layered it like a traditional Thai costume.. But when I wanted to accessorize her, that's when thing got interesting..

All of Thailand's accessories were unique  and I started making them with the things that I had..

First of all, I made a head dress with golden leaf like structures around her hairbun..
This required some satin flowers and golden glitterd foams(As I could not find golden foil leaves)..
They were all tied up over a thin golden wire that is usually used in making stocking cloth flowers..

After stitching the flowers on to the wire, we can attach the golden leaves and let the glue dry for about 2 to 3 hours.. Now the headdress is ready..

Now for the hip belt, I have glued two circles of chart paper on both sides of an old bangle.. And attached it onto some golden laces.. we can decorate the center piece of the belt with stones and gems...

At last comes the hair pin. We know that beaded hairpin is essential for Chinese and Japanese costumes, But it is also a part of Thailand's traditional costume..

I have decorated a piece of flower shaped chart and attached some toothpicks for  the comb..The finished hairpin looked like this..

So that is all for today friends.. Hope you liked my post..Thank you for visiting my blog..

DIY Handmade Queen's Crown

Hello everyone..

Schools are the places where children learn many things.. Apart from academics, it is good to see other talents and skills of our children which they display at their school. So, for one such occasion,my kid needed a queen's crown for her skit..

So,I thought, why not make a crown myself? It would be a fun craft..Isn't it? My daughter loved the idea was very happy to help  me..

I have started making this crown using an old hairband and a paper plate..

Note:
The paper plate in the above picture is a complete plate which is folded into half. Please don't cut along the center of the plate..

Fold the paper again into its quarter size and draw the crown picture on top of it..

Now cut along the design..

Now, when you open it, the main layout for our crown is ready..

Fold the crown shape along the hairband by inserting the hairband though its center..

Now decorating this crown is up to us... I have used the back side of the crown as the center part like this..

and the back side looks like this..

Now, we can cover this entire crown with golden paint and decorate it with beads, stones, crystals and anything which we think will make this crown look royal..

After some enhancements and embellishments.  Voila...

The side of my crown looks like this..

This is just my version..Why don't you try your version of this crown and comment below...

Thank you so much for visiting my blog.. Hope you liked my crown..
